    Hi – I’m Bree! I’ve spent over 15 years capturing little ones’ biggest milestones, and cake smashes are one of my absolute favorites. There’s just something magical about watching a baby’s personality shine through as they dig into their very first birthday cake—sometimes dainty and curious, other times full-on messy and wild!

    My goal is to make sure your session isn’t just about cute photos (though you’ll get plenty of those!), but also about creating a memory you’ll never forget. Because turning one is a big deal—and it deserves to be celebrated in style!

    The Cake Smash Experience

    #1 Secure your Cake Smash Session

    Cake smash portraits don’t have to be taken on your baby’s exact first birthday. If you’d like to use the images for birthday invitations, party décor, or to display at the celebration, I recommend scheduling your session to take place when your baby is around 11 months old. Most cake smash sessions take place when babies are between 11–15 months old.

    I recommend booking your session 2–4 months in advance to ensure availability and give us plenty of time to plan the perfect set, outfit, and cake for your celebration. But if you haven’t pre-booked, don’t worry—a couple of months doesn’t make much of a difference! Just get on the calendar as soon as you can so we can secure your spot.

    #2 Customizing your set

    Every cake smash session is fully tailored to your little one’s personality and your vision. You can choose from a set I’ve created in the past, one of my studio backdrops, a custom garland, or a completely custom set designed around your chosen colors or theme.

    To make the process easy, I’ll send a short questionnaire to help guide the design if you don’t have a set in mind. If you already have ideas or inspiration, you can upload images and references so we can bring your vision to life.

    All sessions include access to all backdrops, props, sets, outfits, and, of course, the cake—so you can relax and enjoy a fully styled, stress-free experience.

    #3 Your cake smash

    When you arrive, you’ll have time to get comfortable in the studio. Siblings often bolt straight for the play area, filled with a train table, play kitchen, climbers, and more—while your baby takes time to warm up and acclimate. There’s no rush and no time limits; we take things at your baby’s pace. Once everyone is settled, we capture family and sibling photos first, then let the siblings go back to play while we focus on your little one.

    Next, we move into two classic portrait sets on the backdrop of your choice, followed by the big cake smash! Finally, we finish with a fun bubble bath clean-up in the tiny tub, capturing those last adorable moments of giggles and splashes. Every part of the session is relaxed, joyful, and designed to showcase your baby’s personality.

    One of the unique benefits of working with me is the same-day viewing experience. After your photo shoot, you’ll be able to relax in the studio and review all of the images we captured. This gives you the chance to select your favorites right away and customize your package on the spot—ensuring you only purchase the images you truly love.

    At Tiny Dreamers Studio, your experience begins with a $300 session fee to reserve your photo shoot or due date on our calendar. This fee includes your custom designed set to your chosen colors, style or theme, a matching smash cake, access to our curated client wardrobe, and an exceptional, stress-free, no time limit experience from start to finish.

    FAQ

    Our cake smash sessions are actually a baby portrait session with the last set being a cake smash. These sessions are typically 1-2 hours in length plus viewing your session images. Our cake smash sessions start out much like our baby sessions. We typically start with optional family/sibling photos on one of our solid drops. Next we do 2 classic portrait sets utilizing our baby closet or your own clothing. These are usually done on solid, wood or fine art drops. Last will be the smash and splash cake smash and optional bubble bath in the tiny tub.

    This is up to you! I show you the images taken and YOU get to choose your favorite images and decide what ones you would like to keep after your session takes place.

    When it comes to your baby, leave everything up to me! I will send a planning questionnaire that asks questions about colors, styling, backdrops, outfits and any special requests you may have. All my sessions are designed with the family’s requests in mind.

    To be honest it happens here and there but I purposefully plan shoots around your baby’s schedule so they arrive recently napped and fed and usually very happy! For babies with stranger danger we allow time for them to peruse the studio and warm up to me as I interact with you and they see I’m safe. I also send a pretty lengthy prep guide so your baby is prepared for the cake which can many times make babies upset. I have photographed hundreds of cake smashes and have a great system in place to get the best outcome we can from the photo shoot.

    You may have noticed in some of my photos babies with large spoons. Although we do prepare baby for their cake prior to the session taking place sometimes babies just don’t want to eat it. And that’s ok. That’s why I call it a cake smash and not a cake eat! I promise my experience is why you want me to photograph your baby’s smash because I know how to work with your little one instead of forcing things on them.
